Celebrating Seattle’s Capitol Hill – A Community Rooted in Pride

For this month’s MoneyPenny Minute, we’re turning the spotlight toward a neighborhood that’s not only close to our office—but close to our hearts: Seattle’s Capitol Hill.

Capitol Hill has long been recognized as the beating heart of Seattle’s LGBTQ+ community. With its vibrant energy, inclusive spaces, and unwavering spirit of activism, this neighborhood has grown into one of the most dynamic cultural hubs in the city. But its journey to becoming Seattle’s “gayborhood” is rooted in history, resilience, and community pride.

Beginning in the 1960s and ’70s, as people sought refuge from discrimination and searched for spaces where they could live authentically, Capitol Hill emerged as a safe haven—a place to gather, organize, and celebrate identity without fear. Over the decades, the neighborhood has blossomed into a thriving mosaic of small businesses, art, music, culture, and grassroots activism, with Pride Month celebrations that echo the bravery and joy of those who paved the way.

At Singer Wealth Management, Capitol Hill isn’t just our neighborhood—it’s part of who we are. We feel fortunate to be rooted in a community that reflects the values we care about most: inclusion, diversity, respect, and supporting individuals in building lives—and financial futures—that align with who they truly are.

This Pride Month, we’re proud to recognize a few of the LGBTQ+ owned businesses that make Capitol Hill such a special, welcoming place to live, work, and celebrate:

Elliott Bay Book Company – A beloved, independent bookstore fostering connection, curiosity, and conversation for people of all backgrounds.
The Wildrose – Seattle’s legendary lesbian bar, standing strong since 1984 as a space for joy, community, and history-making moments.
Cafe Pettirosso – A cozy, LGBTQ+-owned cafe serving up coffee, comfort food, and a sense of belonging.
Sugarpill – A vibrant, queer-owned boutique blending wellness, herbal remedies, and empowerment through self-care.

These businesses—and countless others across Capitol Hill—are a testament to what happens when communities invest in each other. They remind us that economic empowerment and inclusivity go hand in hand, and that every dollar spent locally strengthens the foundation of belonging.

At Singer Wealth Management, we believe that true financial wellness extends beyond numbers—it’s about building community, creating opportunity, and supporting one another on the journey toward security and success.

We’re proud to call Capitol Hill home—and even prouder to celebrate Pride alongside our neighbors.

Happy Pride from all of us at Singer Wealth Management!
