Moneypenny Minute: Your Finance Moment
September 30, 2024How to stay on top of health while building wealth
If you have been pouring your heart and soul into your business, it may be time to transform your mind and body through movement and mindfulness. Recharging the body and soul is good for your health and as we like to say, health is wealth. While monitoring your finances, it is also important to invest in your health. We are thrilled to introduce you to Catherine Zack, who will be sharing her thoughts on health and wealth building.
I first started my career as a corporate litigator in DC. Needless to say, it was a fast-paced, high-stakes, high-pressure environment and stress was par for the course! When I looked around at the growing number of shoes in my office, I couldn’t help but see a connection between my stress levels and my stress spending. (When I quit Big Law a few years later to start a new career as a meditation teacher and mindful stress coach, I counted 27 pairs!).
Eventually, I started carrying around a little note in my wallet that simply said, “Is this adding value to my life?” This mindful reminder helped to curb some of my impulse spending for sure, but it wasn’t until I got my stress levels under control through a regular meditation practice that I could make sure that my decisions were in better alignment with my real values.
When it comes to big decision-making moments, our health and our wealth certainly overlap. Whether it’s setting our retirement goals, planning our career paths, or even deciding how we want to spend our time (and money) this holiday season, our stress levels impact our capacity for clear thinking and sound judgment.
I bet you can already feel the difference in your body when you’re moving from a place of stress and burnout versus moving from a place of calm clarity and good rest.
As we move into the holiday season ahead and planning for next year, one of the smartest things we can do for our financial goals is to better manage our stress.
You can try simple things like taking a short walk in the middle of the day to clear your head or a meditation app & commit to just 5-minutes of daily mindfulness. Even a deep breath in and a deep breath out will start to reset your nervous system back to a calmer baseline.
And when it comes to making big decisions, set aside less than 10 minutes and practice this meditation for calm & clarity with me: www.catherinezack.com
